Modeling

Our team modeled enzyme kinetics for the grapefruit-drug interaction. We modeled our work after a PhD thesis from 2005 by Ilona Pylvänäinen titled “A Parametric Approach to Yeast Growth Curve Estimation and Standardization.” Our team adapted the work by this author to apply specifically to the CYP6B1 enzyme. To our knowledge, this is the first time that the grapefruit-drug interaction has been modeled in this way, providing a valuable contribution to the existing work on the grapefruit-drug interaction. Again based off of this particular PhD thesis, we also created growth models for our desired enzyme. This allowed us to construct growth curves for the engineered and un-engineered yeast which allows us to see if incorporating the two plasmids we designed into yeast affect its growth ability.
