We attended the KCL iGEM UK-wide virtual meet-up, which gave us the opportunity to showcase our work and find potential partnership and collaboration opportunities. We found that KCL and our team had numerous overlaps between our projects. Both projects were therapeutics based and required a well-designed biocontainment strategy and cytotoxicity assays, both of which KCL demonstrated an expertise in. Additionally, both projects were, at that time, considering using cellulose hydrogel materials. Further discussion prompted questions surrounding human practice outreach; whether our research and the papers we read were considering patient response and how would the NHS respond to the potential novel medical device products being proposed. Since the UK meet-up, we held biweekly meetings to discuss key project aspects and mentor each other. These points of partnership include: Science Mentoring, Human Practices, Funding, Wiki Troubleshooting and Developing a Support Network.
