PLANTING/GROWING OF ARABIDOPSIS PROTOCOL
Materials:
Top/garden soil (Garden Club) 25 L
Vermiculite (Holiday)
40 small pots
1 package of Arabidopsis seeds
Paper
Fine-point paintbrush
Trays/Lids
Watering cans
Fridge
Phytotron
Protocol:
1. Mix the bag of topsoil with Vermiculite so that there is about a ratio of 3:1 ratio
2. Fill all of the pots ¾ full with soil mixture and lightly pack, place pots into trays
3. Pour water directly on top of soil until completely wet
4. Fold the paper in half to make a crease, then pour some seeds into the crease
5. Use fine-point paintbrush to push seeds into the pots, putting 9 seeds into each pot in
rows of 3 spaced roughly an inch apart
6. Place lids on trays and place in a 4℃ fridge for 3 days to imitate cold period to signal
germination.
7. Mover trays to phytotron that is set at 25℃ and leave to germinate
8. Water plants every week to ensure the soil is damp, but not soaking wet
