Meetup by Waseda 2020.08.22

We attended a meetup organized by Waseda. We gave a short presentation on our project. We were inspired by the feed-back from other members. Thanks to the feed-back, we started to think more on what we can do for the locals.

Afterwards, we participated in a social event. We got to know a lot of members from other teams in Japan, and it was a great chance to hear their experiences. Their experiences were valuable to us.

Theme Brush-up Meeting@Gunma Day1 2020.12.12

We organized Theme Brush-up Meeting online on December 12th and 13th. We have invited other iGEM teams in Japan.

Why did we decide to hold this Theme Brush-up Meeting@Gunma?

We organized this meeting in order to create an opportunity to exchange our opinions on each project and brush up on each theme. We aimed to make new connections. Our goal was to unite as iGEM Japan.

What did we do?

First, each team gave a presentation on their project. Afterwards, we gave feedback to each other. The discussion was heated, the advice given from other teams were candid, objective and fresh. They were all valuable.

We exchanged ideas not only on the theme but also on collaboration and team management. Also, we discussed the future of iGEM Japan. We are sure that we provided the opportunity for interaction. We concluded that we are going to unite as iGEM Japan and share experiences for the future generation of iGEMers.

Lastly, we conducted the questionnaire for the feedback to this Brush-Up meeting. We confirmed that most of the participants were satisfied.

Participants:
iGEM UTokyo, iGEM-Waseda, BotchanLab.Tokyo, iGEM Qdai, and iGEM Ambassador Ryo Niwa

Meeting with Qdai 2021.07.09

We at Gunma University had a discussion with Qdai about sustainable resources in Japan.

Qdai's theme is "Alternative to Canary '', which is to create a device that detects and notifies poisonous gas using E. coli, and to make it possible to detect poisonous gas inexpensively. First, we shared our topics with each other and pointed out questions and improvements. In particular, we were able to listen to a helpful discussion on human practices, which made our lecture more relevant to the students.

Afterwards, the Japanese team thought that they could have a more in-depth discussion about geothermal power generation from the perspective of gas and hot springs, and discussed the safe use of geothermal power. We were able to discuss in depth both from the perspective of synthetic biology and from the perspective of future prospects.

Through this collaboration, we were able to add a new perspective to each other's projects. Also, by discussing the problems in Japan, we were able to gain an awareness of the issues and recognize that as scientists, we need to think not only about the use of resources, but also about their retention.
It was a good experience to collaborate with Qdai.
