SUMMARY

For our actual project to take place, we and so many other iGEM teams needs to find sponsors to fund the project, or e.g. get base pairs to work with. Finding sponsors are not always easy, and we have been fortunate to find several sponsors which have made this project possible. Below is a list of them.

Sponsors

Siewers Lab

Webpage

We are indebted to Siewers Lab, not only for supplying our amazing PI (Verena Siewers) and supervisors (Andrea, & Angelo), but also letting us use their facilities and equipment for this project. We could not have made this project without their support. Siewers Lab is part of the Divisions of Systems and Synthetic Biology at Chalmers University of Technology and engineer yeast cells with the help of state-of-the-art synthetic and systems biology technologies for a vast variety of applications. This includes cell factories for the sustainable production of plant metabolites used as agrochemicals, biofuels, pharmaceuticals or nutraceuticals; efficient protein producers for the manufacturing of protein drugs; metabolite sensors to screen for efficient enzyme or pathway variants and to regulate metabolism and whole-cell biosensors for pathogen detection.

Chalmers Energy Area of Advance

Webpage

We are very grateful to have receive a generous monetary grant from the Chalmers Energy Area of Advance (AoA) that have helped us with many minor and major costs associated with the project. AoA covers a broad energy context and their mission is to make a difference to major societal challenges. The AoA creates closer internal and external connections that open up new and promising interdisciplinary opportunities. Their vision is to further strengthen Chalmers position as an internationally leading university with regards to the future sustainable energy system, with high relevance to industry and society.

iGEM Team Impact grant & Frederick Gardner Cottrell Foundation

Webpage

We received the iGEM 2021 Team Impact grant. In a first-of-its-kind initiative, $225,000 was divided to 90 iGEM teams during the 2021 competition season, with the support of the Frederick Gardner Cottrell Foundation. Research Corporation Technologies (RCT) established the Frederick Gardner Cottrell Foundation in December 1998 to provide financial support for scientific research and educational programs at qualified non-profit organizations.

Eurofins Scientific

Webpage

We have received promotions for gene materials from Eurofins Scientific. Through its subsidiaries Eurofins is a world market leader in testing and laboratory services for genomics, discovery pharmacology, forensics, advanced material sciences and for supporting clinical studies. With over 50,000 staff across a network of more than 900 independent companies in over 50 countries and operating more than 800 laboratories, Eurofins offers a portfolio of over 200,000 analytical methods for evaluating the safety, identity, composition, authenticity, origin and purity of biological substances and products, as well as for innovative clinical diagnostics. Few testing laboratories can combine the level of expertise, technological leadership, attention to quality and customer service that have made Eurofins the global leader in many of the fields where it is active.

Integrated DNA Technologie

Webpage

As an iGEM Platinum Partner Sponsors Integrated DNA Technologies (IDT) have provided us with 20 000 base pairs for gene material. IDT leads the industry in the manufacture of custom oligonucleotides for molecular biology applications. They've developed proprietary technologies for genomics applications, such as Next Generation Sequencing, CRISPR genome editing, qPCR, and RNA interference. IDT have been a champion of life sciences research for more than 30 years, and develops and manufactures nucleic acid products that support the life sciences industry. Areas of focus include academic and commercial research, agriculture, medical diagnostics, pharmaceutical development and synthetic biology.

BioRender

Webpage

As written on Biorenders own webpage:
“BioRender is the world’s first tool to help scientists create and share beautiful, professional scientific figures.”
Biorender was funded 2017 to help scientists make figures easier and better than ever before. We have extensively used Biorender for making figures for presentations, our website, flyers and blog posts. Using biorender has been a gamechanger in how we could present our project.
